Covering Horizontal Stabilizer and Rudder

Saturday morning we made a house call to Henry Riege's farm near Oak Hammock Marsh to correct the fabric layout for the rudder. The vertical cemented seam combined with cemented seams over the narrow aluminium tubing frame wasn't working. With 2 more yards of fabric we followed Henry's advice and made a sewn pillow slipped over the rudder - eliminating the 2"overlapped cemented seams.

Henry using a stapler to 'pin' the two halves together.

The new rudder 'pillow case' fit beautifully and avoided a lot of messy cementing that wasn't working.

 Covering the horizontal stabilizer.

Maurice April and Harvey McKinnon rib stitching the horizontal stabilizer. Maurice lives next door to the airport and has caught on to rib stitching quickly; he patiently taught Harvey who was able to get a couple of stitches in! Below - Maurice putting stitching.
